2013 Favourites

With 2014 edging closer, it is time to share the many products that I have loved throughout 2013.

I am quite a product junkie. I tend to change everything from my toothpaste right through to my body lotion every single time I run out of a specific product and have to go shopping, but these products I have used over and over again and will probably continue buying them in the future.

Outfit Idea: NYE

Image

Good golly! It’s almost 2014! If you’re not sure yet what you want to wear when everyone shouts “HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!” then look no further, because outfit ideas are heading your way!

Outfit 1#

If you don’t want to go the traditional route of wearing gold and black, then try wearing green, gold and nude instead.

Image

Outfit 2#

If you’ve been saving that gold and black number, but you didn’t know when to wear it, then this outfit will be more your style. The pink lips are also fun and a cool twist on the usual red lips that are standard with gold and black outfits.

Outfit 3#

Not a girly girl? Try this edgy look instead.

OOTD: Day Outing

I went on a field trip after Christmas to the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria. Here’s what I wore:

The neon tribal dress was a gift and was purchased from Mr. Price. My handbag was also a gift from a good friend of mine for Christmas.

My flip flops I’ve had for years and I really don’t remember how much they cost, but I bought them from Rage and they’re extremely comfortable!

Review: L’Oreal Even Perfect Facial Foam

After watching some YouTubers’ videos on skincare routines, I realised that I should find a new facial cleanser to use in the mornings in summer as well. I have quite dry skin so I thought just rinsing my face off in the morning is fine since it won’t dry out my skin so much. WRONG. In summer, our skin produces more oils so keeping your skin clean yet moisturized is necessary.

I went to one of the local drugstores and after browsing for about an hour looking at all the various skin product ranges, I settled on the L’Oreal Even Perfect Facial Foam. It was on sale as well so that kind of swayed my choice. I love me a good bargain!

Image

After seeing it was on sale, the tube’s packaging then caught my eye. It is simple, yet visually appealing with a classic colour scheme of light blue, white and gold. In the shop, I couldn’t smell the product inside the tube clearly so I was terribly excited to get home.

Once at home, I discovered that the product smells extremely clean and the foam feels so good on my skin. It makes your skin feel a little tight after you’ve just washed it off, but after a few minutes the tightness goes away by itself.

I’ve been using the product for a week now and I have to say it really, honestly works. On the tube it claims that it evens out the skin and it really does. I use the facial foam once every morning and I’ve already seen a dramatic difference in my skin.

Bravo L’Oreal! Five stars!!!

Christmas OOTD

Since Christmas is almost over and I’m still recovering from a severe food coma, I decided to do a naughty little post on what I wore today.

I spent the day with my family just chilling at home so I did not get too dressed up. My brother and I also wore ridiculous reindeer antlers and Santa hats for most of the day, but I decided not to wear it in my picture.

My dress has really beautiful detailing on that does not show up on camera unfortunately.

Even though I chose to wear this on Christmas, this outfit is still something that can be worn to a barbecue, a picnic or a Sunday family lunch any other time of the year. The reason why I wore a white dress is because it is summer here and I live in South Africa so no snow for us. In fact, we didn’t even have any sun either here in Pretoria. Just rain. Lame.

My dress was a gift from my mom a couple of months ago and I believe she bought it at Forever New.

My shoes were also a gift from my cousin in Abu Dhabi for my birthday and they’re from Accessorize. Don’t they remind you of Dorothy’s shoes from The Wizard of Oz?

I wore candy cane and Christmas tree shaped earrings that I’ve had for ages, but that also doesn’t show up on camera.

So there you have it, nice and simple Christmas outfit.

I hope you guys enjoyed the post and that you had a very blessed day!

Christmas Eve happenings

Image

As mentioned before, Santa’s elves got to my house a little bit late this year, but everything is ready for Christmas tomorrow! All the gifts have been wrapped, the Christmas tree is up and glittering merrily, and most importantly, my yearly ritual of baking Christmas cookies with a friend is also done.

I burnt the first batch to an embarrassing crisp as the picture below shows.

Image

The second batch came out perfectly and I’m chowing down on a cookie with a cup of tea as we speak.

I am terribly excited about Christmas and I can’t wait to give my family and friends their gifts!

I hope all my readers and followers also have a merry Christmas Eve if that’s even a thing.

Christmas laziness

Image

This year I am ashamed to say that I have left my Christmas shopping until the very last possible second. I could not figure out what to get everyone as gifts and also, a good friend of mine got engaged too so that was added onto my shopping list.

I still need to wrap some of my gifts and put up the Christmas tree. I found the coolest ornaments at Typo so that will definitely be going on the tree this morning!

I will spend the day getting the last of the gifts wrapped for my family and also, I will be baking Christmas cookies and a cheesecake for Christmas lunch tomorrow.

Pictures will follow! Stay tuned!

How To: Picking an Engagement Gift for a Friend

In my previous post, I mentioned that one of my best friends is getting engaged today. I don’t know when or where today, but I know that it is definitely happening in the next couple of hours and I AM SO FRIGGIN’ EXCITED!!!

I am going shopping for an engagement present today before the surprise engagement party so I thought that I should share what my hours of research and advice from my mom showed.

Firstly, be creative! You’ll probably know the people you’re buying the gift for well enough to know what they need and what they like. My friend has been living with another friend of hers just over a year, so she has all the basics. Also she’s super organized so she has more special things for when she gets married.

Secondly, don’t break the bank. You’ll probably need to buy a wedding present as well and go away possibly for the bachelorette and that all costs money so keep it in mind. If you know the person well, a sentimental or thoughtful gift will go much further than something that just simply cost a fortune. Also, we all just finished university so for now we’re either still poor students or just plain unemployed until we start new jobs next year.

The third point ties in with the second thought and that is giving the gift some thought. A thoughtful gift will be much more appreciated than something you saw and grabbed last minute. I spent the entire day looking online for something that I think my friend of almost 6 years will love.

What I decided to buy her for now is three wooden symbols that she can put somewhere in her flat or on a bookcase as decoration. I saw it at Typo and decided to get that so long for her. I initially wanted to either get her a photo album or a wedding planner book/ diary, but that’s maybe something her mom or roommate would get her.

I managed to find a picture of the one wooden symbol on Typo’s website. The other two symbols are just my friend and her fiancé’s initials, but I couldn’t find pics online. What do you guys think?
