January faves

And so the first month of 2014 has already (almost) come to an end. Who’s been sticking to their New Year’s resolutions? 😉

One of mine is to post a favourites post every month, so here goes:

  1. BioDerma Sensibio H2O – This product really does live up to the hype. It removes ALL your make-up without drying out your skin or pulling at it. Fabulous.
  2. Revlon Lip Butter in Creamsicle – This light orangey nude colour is perfect for every day use. I’ve been wearing it non-stop. It’s also extremely hydrating and gives you all the benefits of a lip balm and a lipstick.
  3. TreSemme´ Oil Elixir For All Hair Types – I went to the product launch and the smell of this product is just delicious. Who doesn’t want nice smelling hair?! And it makes your hair super soft and shiny. Thumbs up!
  4. Mango harem pants – I’m not normally a fan of harem pants or of Mango for that matter, but I love the pattern on these and the colours. Orange isn’t normally a colour I wear, but I’ve made an exception. Oh, and they’re SUPER comfortable too!
  5. Bee ring – I’ve had this ring for a couple of years already, but I’ve rediscovered it and I’ve been wearing it often. I’m allergic to real bees, but this baby won’t be causing anaphylactic shock anytime soon.

It seems all of these products have followed a particular colour scheme, which is seriously not intentional. Pinky promise! 🙂

  1. Jeniffer Lawrence – I know, I know, I’m going to be getting hate for this one and I’m not arguing that J-Law is good in The Hunger Games, but I don’t buy the whole I-don’t-care-what-people-think-of-me-in-Hollywood thing. EVERYBODY cares what others think in Hollywood. I get a very my-PR-person-told-me-to-do-it vibe from her. Another thing, she KNEW when she photo bombed Taylor Swift that she was on camera. I mean come on, you’re on the red carpet. You know your every move is being scrutinized. Also, Taylor Swift was busy doing an interview so yes, she knew she was on camera and also what’s the point of creeping up behind her and pull a face if you didn’t think you were going to be photographed. I am sorry if I offended any J-Law fans. I’ve had this argument with a girl in my office as well. Sorry Zara. 😉 This article explains exactly all the reasons why I’m not such a huge fan of hers. Read it if you want a more in-depth explanation, but I agree with the author.

Image2. Essence nail polish – Their colour range is gorgeous, but the quality, not so much. I painted my nails yesterday afternoon. I already have a gigantic chip on three of my nails. This colour, Free Hugs, is my favourite colour in the whole range.

Stay Strong!

In my last post, I mentioned that I went to a photo shoot and I also mentioned all the other excitement that’s been going on in the office otherwise. Despite of all this, I have been feeling a little frustrated.

The traffic in to Johannesburg is literally almost as bad as swallowing live scorpions, which in my mind is quite terrible and not something you’d want to do anytime soon. Johannesburg is about an hour from my house at any given time, but during peak time traffic, it’s  almost two hours or more. Now that’s two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening, which makes a total of four hours each day wasted on sitting in mindless traffic with people who are so incredibly rude and don’t obey the simplest traffic rules. I’m from a much quieter town (actually city) so it’s all a shock to my system.

Also, after my undergrad studies I worked for a year and last year headed back to university full time for my post grad so it’s been quite an adjustment to suddenly work again instead of doing assignments and studying.

All of this is something to get used to and it can be frustrating sometimes. Change is always hard at first.

If you’re going through something similar, then stay strong! Just remind yourself that it’s all part of the road to success and reaching your dreams!

My first photo shoot!!!

I went to my first photo shoot yesterday with celebs, cute clothes, make-up being done and all!

It was a really cool experience although the shoot was a fairly quick one in the world of photo shoots, because we started at 11 o’clock in the morning and we were done at about 3 in the afternoon.

I had an assistant role in all this. I steamed the clothing and ran around the building to go fetch neon sneakers and a pair of jeans.

The celebs we had for the shoot were locals, Masego Maps Maponyane, and Boity Thulo. Both will be starring in a new television show, Rockville. We’re doing a feature on it, which is also why we did the shoot.

I LOVED meeting these lovely two people. Both of them are incredibly friendly and fun to work with. No diva fits were thrown, both were on time, nobody had issues with the clothing and also they clearly enjoy working with each other as well. They brought so much energy to the shoot as well, making all of our jobs so much easier.

I looked like a complete tool yesterday since I dressed comfortably, because I knew I was going to be running around. Note the t-shirt, sneakers and minimal make-up… Either way, here’s a pic of me and Maps.

And of me and the beautiful Boity:

Another exciting thing that was going on in the office was the various camera crews from CNN, BBC and a local show, Carte Blanche. They all interviewed our editor about Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp since the anniversary of her death is coming up and apparently various media companies and TV channels have been harassing people in our office. They’ve been trying to contact them, because many of them were either close friends with Reeva or know Oscar. Our editor was the spokesperson for our staff so that people will leave them alone. In case you haven’t heard about the whole Oscar Pistorius thing, let me bring you up to speed real quick.

On Valentine’s Day last year Oscar Pistorius, a world famous Paralympian athlete, shot and killed his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp at his house in Pretoria. He still needs to go to trial. The big courtcase is in March so the South African media has already started looking for leads and back-stories for the big upcoming trial.

Anyway, having three crews at the office meant that when you snuck in, you had to be super quiet and careful to not walk straight through their shot. It took ages to film that bit where our editor spoke, because people kept walking by, talking in the hallways, which are echoey, car alarms went off outside etc. We ended up closing the door and all the windows for an hour and a half. Our usual loud, Beyonce´ and Spice Girls blasting office transformed into complete silence and seriousness. The camera crews got the editor’s comments and left just as soon as they came.

After the shoot, I headed out for a quick milkshake at Fego across the street and went back inside to write a few reviews.

All in all, a good day. 🙂

Lost your blush..?

Has your room ever been so messy that you misplace your blush somewhere in it..? Mine has… Actually, it’s how my room is at this very second. BUT I found the perfect lifesaver if something like that should ever happen to you in the future.

It’s Rimmel eyeshadow in Pop Your Pink and I’ve had it for a few months, but be warned: Use only a tiny bit, because you can end up looking like a clown for the day if you use too much.

As you can see in the picture above, it is terribly bright, but I promise, it works surprisingly well as a blush! It’s pigmented, easy to get onto your brush and it lasts weirdly long.

I’ll keep you posted on my blush drama, if I ever find it again in this ginormous mess!

Not an ideal weekend

People, let me just begin by saying that a large chunk of my weekend was literally almost worse than eating bees, and believe me, that is really saying something since I am deathly allergic to those like suckers.

Friday, I got to stay home and just chill for most of the day and I went shopping at Clicks. My previous post is about what I bought, but I couldn’t yet try out the products since I was just at a friend’s house and we drank half our body weight in Nestle´ Cappuccino. Weird, but not bad though. He then got a call from his boss and the desperate search for his passport started. Needless to say, the thing is gone. I then went to another friend of mine’s house for her birthday weekend and we just chilled and ate a lot of cupcakes. I am embarrassed about the exact number so mum’s the word.

Then came Saturday. Oh lawdy lawd, where do I start complaining explaining how terrible the morning was?

Okay, I can sum it up in one phrase (it is a phrase right?): The Department of Home Affairs. Turns out, Botswana does not except South Africa’s temporary/ emergency passports and my friend who lost his passport needs one by Monday afternoon. Now, passports take 6 weeks minimum to get made or whatever it is that the government does to produce those little green travelling books. (In SA our passport books are green, FYI for those living abroad).

We got there at about 10 in the morning. The place was packed with loud little monsters kids, their irate parents and weirdly, elderly people. The people behind and in front of me in the queue were, well, horrible. The person behind me had no concept of personal space and kept breathing and coughing on me. My face:

The couple in front of me had two little children who kept climbing on everything and screaming their heads off. The dad changed his son’s diaper right there in front of everyone at some stage. My face:

All of this made me feel terribly sorry for myself, because I have to travel overseas in June and I still need to apply for my Visa.

I kept the space in the queue while my friend ran around getting pictures taken and filling in forms. We had to leave after an hour and a half to go draw money for a new passport. I couldn’t believe how damn expensive those things are! After fingerprints (seriously sounds like we had jail time, haha!) we got something to drink and frozen yogurt. Oh ya, I forgot to mention how kak hot it was yesterday! So being crammed into an overcrowded room full of screaming children and their irritated parents might not have been the most fun I’ve ever had.

After that I missioned to a birthday party/tea party, which was fun. I hung out with a friend I haven’t seen since last year September. All fun and games, until I had an argument with two of my other friends. Not so much fun and games.

I sorted it all out this morning though while having a truly marvelous cup of tea. I have been sitting on the couch for the entire day. At least I painted my nails for work tomorrow. Maybe I’ll go out and watch a movie later. Or not.

Hope you guys had a good weekend though!
