April Favourites/Haul

Guess who went shopping?! Rhetorical question really, since it’s obviously me! This post will be kind of like part Haul and an April favourites post.

Steve Madden boots

The season is changing quickly here, and it’s becoming very cold, very fast, so I decided that it is definitely time for me to purchase a new pair of boots. Previously, I always used to wear pumps in the middle of winter, because in my corner of the world snow is an extreme rarity and I’m outdoorsy in the sense that in summer I like going onto the porch and drinking a cocktail. That’s it. Unfortunately, wearing pumps outside like the insensible person I am in the dead of winter meant getting a cold and flu more often so last winter I started wearing sneakers more and voila, less colds! This winter I’m upgrading to a gorgeous pair of boots that are not only warm, but also actually keeps the damn cold out!

Lee Stafford Bleach Blondes Shampoo and Conditioner

I had my hair ombred last year February already and I’m holding thumbs that this hair trend is here to stay. It’s so low maintenance and you can still be blonde without having completely destroyed hair or looking washed out. Because you still have blonde or lighter ends, a good silver shampoo is definitely still a must to maintain this look. At first, the shampoo made my scalp itch, which did not impress me in the slightest, but when I started using it religiously in conjunction with the conditioner the itch stopped and my hair looks toned and is brass free.

MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base

This was a graduation gift from mister S. I changed from my usual Garnier BB cream to a Revlon one and unlike the Garnier one, the Revlon one needs a primer to make it last all day and not do a funny crack looking thing on my skin. This primer is great, because it has a very subtle sparkly something in it that gives your skin a very youthful and dewy appearance. Me likey.

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Laquer

Another graduation gift from mister S. I did a review on this fantastic product here. These are affordable, highly pigmented, last forever, and gives a very polished look. When I went back to Edgars for another one, they were all sold out, and this was within a week after first getting my gloss.

Essie nail polish in Fiji

A gift to myself really. I tend to wear the brightest and craziest colours on my nails anytime, all year long. I needed something a bit more subdued for work so I went for this colour. It’s great for Spring actually, and I think it’ll make a tan really stand out. A much cheaper dupe is Tip Top’s Melting Marshmallow, but Essie’s lasts much longer and gives a less streaky finish, although Tip Top’s isn’t bad at all.

Hey Gorgeous Marshmallow Whipped Mousse

I’ve done a review on this product. It’s amazing. Seriously, try it. They ship internationally as well.

Accessorize Panda earrings

I LOVE pandas and penguins! They get to wear tuxedos every day. How awesome is that?! These little sparkly bastards go with everything and I’ve been wearing them a lot. I even wore them to a wedding. Classy!

Lipstick leggings

An incredibly early birthday present from mister S. I saw these at Mr. Price and LOVED them. I mean, what’s not to love? They’re colourful and have lipsticks all over them! They were about R69,99 if I remember correctly, and as far as I know they should still be in stock. See how I wore mine here.

Family Feud

I know this show is on its 14th season already or something insane like that, but it only recently started airing in South Africa, and I’m hooked! I literally watch it every night, and if I don’t I watch the week’s omnibus of it. I’m a huge fan of the presenter/host, Steve. What a hilarious man!

Adidas deodorant spray in Fruity Rhythm

On Friday, I had to pack my bags for a weekend trip in 20 minutes, which is a true tragedy for any girl. My room still looks like a hurricane hit it, and it’ll probably have to stay that way for the next few days, but I digress. In my hurry to pack, I forgot to pack in a perfume and it really bothered me! I made a stop at Dischem and bought this spray. I’ve used it before, and I don’t know why I didn’t repurchase it! It smells so fresh and fruity and just plain delicious. It’s great having one of these in your bag instead of an expensive perfume.

They recently performed in SA at Ramfest, and unfortunately I couldn’t go to the show, but I’ve been listening to their music constantly. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea (or should I rather say pint of beer? Tea is much too dainty for a rock band!), but I’m loving them. My favourite song, which everyone’s probably heard by now, is My Number.

Atlas Genius

I’ve also been listening to them constantly, and I’m secretly wishing that they’ll come to one of my favourite music festivals, In The City, this year. My favourite song is If So. It’s great to bop to in your car. Tried and tested. 😉

The BBC and my Rubik’s Cube

Remember a few days ago I mentioned that I was interviewed by a journalist from the BBC?

Well, the article finally appeared on BBC Magazine‘s website! It was quite random how it actually happened.

I follow the BBC on Twitter and saw they had retweeted a journalist looking for people who love Rubik’s Cubes and still play with them, and I happen to be a crazy who keeps one in my handbag. I play with it on long car rides and when I wait in line. I feel much better playing with a Rubik’s Cube than being on my phone the entire time.

Anyway,I replied to his Tweet not thinking this guy in London would bother replying. To my astonishment, he actually did! He asked for my phone number and gave me a call.

At times I struggled understanding him, because of a gorgeous British accent and I could tell the poor man also struggled at times understanding my flat South African one, but we talked for about 10 minutes and I emailed him photos of my Rubik’s Cube and me holding it as he requested.

At 6 this morning, I was woken up by a Facebook notification on my phone from a girl who studied with me last year. She found the article online and posted a link on my wall to it.

There you have it. That’s how a plain South African girl got to be in the BBC Magazine. 😉 Check out the article here. It’s a very interesting read.

And thanks, Tom de Castella for taking the time to phone me for an interview. Your accent is truly beautiful. 😉

Weekend Update!

Gorgeous building on NWU campus, Potchefstroom

My sincerest apologies for being slightly absent these past few days and for uploading my blog posts at weird hours. I’ve had an insane week.

I started a new job as mentioned before here at a big publishing company and I manage an entire publication’s social media. My first day was last week Tuesday, and my working hours are slightly odd, but nothing that one can’t get used to. I also had training on their systems, which was intense.

I was also interviewed by a journalist from the BBC for a piece he’s currently writing, but more about that a bit later in another post.

Then also, a MASSIVE thank you is in order for Hey Gorgeous who put the nicest post on their Facebook page ever.

They made my stats do this:

This weekend I went to Potchefstroom for a wedding. It was quite lovely, and it was really awesome seeing this town. It really is beautiful with lots of massive oak trees everywhere. I also got a tour of North Western University’s campus since mister S studied there and was excited to show it to me.

The wedding was also really fun. Anyone who knows me well knows that I quite like to bust a move when I can and plenty of that went down. 😉

What did you get up to this weekend?

TAG: What’s in my bag?

I’ve been seeing a couple of these floating about on the blogosphere, so I decided to do one as well!

I was actually quite disappointed to discover that I don’t have nearly as much trash in my bag as I initially thought I’d have. This is mainly due to the fact that I recently completed my very last internship EVER and started a grown up job at a decent, established publication so I cleaned out my bag before starting there.

Now for my bag:

I got this Guess handbag for my birthday last year, and I have to say if I had to be a handbag, this is what I’d look like! Pink and rose gold with charms! The picture doesn’t do it justice, because it’s even more beautiful in person!

And now for what’s inside…

The lollipop is quite random and I have no idea why I left it in there! Other than that I have a notebook that I take to meetings, my purse, lip stain from Etude House, lip butter, a cupcake pen, MAC face powder, my Ray-Bans, keys, and that Coca-Cola tin is where I keep my gum. I eat a lot of fish and veggies, and I don’t want to make anyone faint with fishy breath. I also usually have my cellphone thrown in there as well.

What do you keep in your bag?
