Vote!!! Spring/Summer nails

beautiful day

Well, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?

I’ve been so busy with work, even now on my off day I’m busy uploading pictures of people’s lost dogs. Don’t ask…

Spring is in the air here in Southern Africa and I couldn’t be happier! Just now I looked out the window and saw flowers have already started blooming in our garden. The grass still needs to green up a bit, but who’s going to complain about fresh spring flowers?

With spring and summer just around the corner, it’s definitely time for me to get my tootsies sandal/pump/flip flop ready.

Since I can’t decide what colour to make my toenails for the first time since the winter started, you’ve got to help me.

Which colour do you think I should make my nails? After all, the first colour you make your nails for the new season sets the tone (and my mood) for the week. So take a minute to help me decide.

Happy voting!

Almost Spring!

Almost Spring!

Wow, my apologies for being super late with this one! These past two weeks have truly been weeks that I don’t want over again, but that’s really a post for another day.

My favourites for this month is going to be fairly short and sweet. Le’ go!

DKNY Golden Delicious

Wawaweewa! I’ve been using DKNY Be Delicious perfume for quite a while now and I only recently bought this bottle of golden greatness a week ago on a serious special, but I love it! The smell is just fantastic and the packaging is amazing. Top notch.

The Vitamin E range from The Body Shop

I bought the Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet and the matching night cream. I ended up only using the night cream and giving the Aqua E Boost Sorbet to mister S who initially complained about the pinkness, but he got over it and is now using it. He loves it and his skin does too.

Cotton On socks

They are ridiculous, but I love them.

Jay Jays head band

I’ve had it for a while now, but it’s recently been icy so I’ve been wearing this to keep my ears warm and it really makes a difference!

Lovisa

I really love this shop. They have the cutest accessories. I was there last week with my mom and I ended up buying hair bows (pictured above).

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Everyone’s heard of this iconic movie, but how many people have actually watched it? I downloaded it (yay for piracy) and I really loved it! It really is such a classic and sweet movie. Two hours long though, but worth it.

Yankee Candle Vanilla Cupcake

Apparently this is Yankee Candle’s bestseller and I’m not surprised. It smells exactly like a freshly baked batch of cupcakes. I was feeling a little down and when I opened one of my bags one night, it was carefully hidden inside. Mister S is just a real sweetheart, isn’t he?

Wimpy coffee mug

Wimpy has a special with one of their breakfasts at the moment. When you order the breakfast you get an adorable mug with it. There are so many to choose from, but I liked this one with the lipstick mark the most.

Hazelnut lattes

Hi, my name is Carina and I’m addicted to hazelnut lattes.

The fact that my best friend is back in town

My best friend in the entire world went to South Korea last year for work and she came back last week Monday. Words can’t describe how happy I am to have her around the corner from my house again. Welcome back, Jen! ❤

My thoughts on gel nails

DSC05500

So last week I had my nails done at a salon. Normally, I couldn’t be bothered with having fake nails, because to be honest, I can’t do anything with long nails. I struggle opening containers, I can’t type properly on my laptop or phone and that extra thickness your nails has due to the gel makes it impossible to scratch an itch so I have to have a bobby pin with me at all times. Trust me, a bobby pin is a lifesaver in these situations!

Anyway, I had my nails done because I have extremely weak nails. They break all the time and I work like a mofo so I honestly just don’t have the time to paint my nails every two or three days when the polish starts to chip. Plus, the salon had a special on gel nails so I couldn’t resist. 😉

I went in and the girl who did my nails is honestly the sweetest person ever. I didn’t feel awkward making small talk with her at all and she had millions of colours for me to choose from.

Everyone knows, I love me some pink, but I decided to go for a sparkly pastel purple instead.

I have to say, it is very convenient not having to repaint my nails every other day and it’s nice having my nails protected by the gel so that it doesn’t break when it gets to a certain length. I also like the shine that gel gives to the polish or whatever you call it. Regular nail polish doesn’t have that brilliant sheen to it.

However, the glue/gel kind of goes in underneath your nails and dries and I hate that. It looks and feels like my nails are dirty. Also the regrowth doesn’t look fantastic and it starts growing out already after a week. With gel nails you also can’t soak it in any way too long in water, which kind of means no washing dishes or taking a long bath.

So all in all, I’m not sure if I’ll be getting my nails gelled up again soon even though it’s convenient and looks great the first week, because let’s be honest, dishes need to washed and baths need to be taken and it’s not really something you can just leave and not do anymore unless you want to put on gloves every single time you bath, then by all means. Also, they’re a pain to maintain. It’s not cheap going for a fill every two weeks or getting them soaked off after a month or whatever.

Maybe next time I attend a wedding or some special occasion then I’ll get them nails done again.
