Review: Hello Sunshine

I love Bath and Body Works.

They have amazing candles and I love the scents and names they have for their various products and they also have a wide variety to choose from.

With that said, they had a crazy sale and I bought a bottle of body lotion since I left a few of my essential toiletries in South Africa. Why you ask? Because the flight from SA to the UAE is 8 hours long and I tend to overpack imagining all kinds of crazy scenarios like containers exploding in my bag to having to wear shorts to a formal dinner, so I left things I could buy easily in the UAE sitting in my bathroom.

I quite enjoy a good sniff in shops such as Bath and Body Works so I finally chose a happy looking yellow bottle appropriately named Hello Sunshine.

The scent is described as sparkling Meyer lemon, luscious tangerine and sunflower petals. I don’t pick up the petals at all but the rest is there and let me tell you something sister, it smells good!

The container also promises 16-hour moisturisation and a non-greasy formula, which I have to agree with.

You don’t have to sit around waiting for the lotion to absorb into your skin for hours. You literally take a shower, splash it onto your skin and you’re good to go. It obviously depends how much you put on, but if it’s a regular layer of cream you can pretty much get dressed ASAP without getting it everywhere on your clothes.

So in conclusion, this cream keeps your skin moisturised for long, absorbs easily and fast and isn’t too expensive. I got mine for Dhs15. It’s normally something like Dhs30, which isn’t too bad.

Have you tried Bath and Body Works lotion? Which is your favourite?

Review: The Original Beauty Blender

So if you’ve been following beauty trends or been keeping an eye on your favourite beauty bloggers/vloggers, you may have heard about this bright pink sponge (because that’s basically all it is).

I picked one up at Sephora in Dubai mall after being bombarded with the enormous stand. There were cute baby ones in green as well, but I chose to rather buy the bigger one.

So first things first: The packaging

Really cute. I love that it’s so bright and in my favourite colour. I also like the canister that it comes in although it’s pretty flimsy plastic, but the print is cute. It comes with an instruction manual as well just saying you need to wet the product and squish out excess moisture before using it to apply your make up.

Using the product

I used the Beauty Blender for the first time this morning expecting great things from it since everybody’s been carrying on so hectically and to be honest, I’m disappointed. My make up didn’t look any smoother to me than it did before when I just used my trusty foundation brush or fingers and it kind of felt like the make up almost got sucked into the sponge so I had to use more product than usual, which is not ideal.

Some of the reviews I read, people claimed the Beauty Blender made their make up look airbrushed. I did not experience that at all.

The pros

The packing is cute, it dries quickly and it retains its original shape when drying so don’t stress about giving it a squeeze. The sponge is also soft so it doesn’t pull on your skin.

The cons

Your make up will look exactly the same as before. Sorry. Oh and this sponge!

Final conclusion

I honestly don’t know what the insane fuss is about. It’s adorable and fun looking, but ultimately, it’s a bright pink, overpriced dome shaped sponge. Save your buck and purchase cheaper R20 ($2) packs of sponges at the drug store or pharmacy. This is not worth the Dhs80 (!!!!!!) it cost me.

I will do an update on this product in a week or so, but for now I’m not blown away.

Have you used the Beauty Blender? What did you think?

My last day in the UAE

Hello er’body!

Today is my last day in Abu Dhabi. I’m flying back to South Africa at 5 o’clock in the morning. Not exactly looking forward to my long haul flight, but hey, I’ll be back home at a decent time in the day.

Anyway, I’m very excited to show all my pictures that I’ve taken, although if you follow me on Instagram you would’ve seen a couple of pictures that I’ve posted already.

Just a sneak peak of what I’ve been wearing beauty wise for the past week:

I’ve been loving the Naked palette and also the Nars blusher.

And a peek at some of my cousin’s wedding photos:

If you don’t know already, my cousin got married on Friday and I was a bridesmaid, which is why I came to the UAE.

Have a splendid day!

A happy belated 2015 to you!

Well hello again!

May I take a moment to say happy 2015 to you all!

I’m off from work for two weeks and I can’t wait. As I’m typing this I’m listening to Pharrell’s Happy because it sums up my mood perfectly.

Tomorrow I’m flying to the UAE (United Arab Emirates for those who don’t know) for my lovely cousin’s wedding.

I’m incredibly excited about this trip.

Firstly because I get to go to UAE again and see my favourite family and secondly because I’m a bridesmaid at the wedding. I honestly just hope I fit into my bridesmaid’s dress after all the chocolate I ate over the festive season but I’ve been attempting to eat properly this week and I think I’ve been quite successful. 🙂

I went to pick up a few last gifts from the mall just now and I’m getting ready to go to dinner with my best friend, her boyfriend and obviously Mr. S.

I’ll be posting some pictures when I get to Abu Dhabi. My flights are insane hours so I don’t think anybody will be awake at 4:30 am when I arrive.

I hope 2015 has been treating you well so far. 🙂

Thanks for reading!
