June favourites

So my birth month has come and gone and that makes me sad. I am also 25. That makes me even sadder. 😉

Also, this post is a bit late and I tried out a different backdrop for the products. I prefer plain white to be honest, but anyway, since it was my birthday this month I got a couple of gifts that I loved and it will be making up some of my favourites.

Guess handbag

Mr. S got me a stunning black Guess bag as part of my birthday gift. I almost feel too sorry for it to use it daily because it’s so gorgeous. And it matches my black heart. 😉

Jay Jays jacket

An early birthday gift from Mr. S. It’s really warm and I’ve been wearing it constantly.

Woolworths ring

Thank you to my friend Natasha for giving me this ring. I love the colours of the gems and I honestly don’t have anything else quite like it.

MAC goodies

My friends know me all too well. I got MAC lipglosses and a lipstick from two of my friends and I really love it. Thanks Jenni and Marelie!!! ❤ I also Instagrammed a picture.

Dior foundation

Again something Mr. S got me. I’ll do a full review on it later.

Rimmel Scandal Eyes in Bluffing

I’ve had this for a while but I couldn’t find a damn eyeliner sharpener that was big enough to sharpen the pencil until recently. I got an Essence one at Dis-Chem and since buying that I’ve been using the eyeshadow pencil every single day. It’s a nice neutral bronzey colour that is perfect for work and even when you’re out about on the town.

Nico & Vinz – Am I wrong?

A lovely song. I particularly like singing along to the “Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah” part. 😉

Review: MAC Copperthorn

To say I’ve been busy lately is a total understatement. I’ve had the pleasure to attend my first media screening for a movie in Melville, Johannesburg. I had to attend a corporate photo shoot and had to assist with holding props and walking all over the Maboneng Precinct in Johannesburg CBD. It’s the birthplace of all hipsters before they all migrate to Cape Town on skateboards or whatever method of transport it is that hipsters use nowadays, but in all honesty the CBD is very cool.

So with all my excuses out the way, I thought it’s about time that I do a review of an oldie but a goodie eyeliner of mine that I rediscovered while frantically searching for my concealer in my make-up bag one morning.

*Drumroll please* It’s MAC’s Copperthorn!

I absolutely adore this eyeliner. The texture is very smooth and velvety. Although it is technically an eyeliner in the more liquidy/gelly family, I use it as an eyeshadow.

It’s not powdery, but trust me when I say this baby sticks! You don’t need a primer and it seriously makes your eyes pop. I have blue eyes, but I think this is a shade that’ll work well for any eye colour.

It’s also jam packed with sparkles and pigment, but it’s not so sparkly that it’s glittery. It’s just the right amount of shimmer.

If I remember correctly, this product wasn’t exactly cheap since it is MAC, but you don’t need a lot of it when you’re using it so it’ll last quite a while.

It also comes in the signature sturdy glass pot with a black top that MAC loves using.

Which MAC eyeliner/shadow is your favourite?

May favourites <3

I can’t even believe how fast this year is going by! My birthday is in two weeks and it’s literally slap bang in the middle of the year and in the dead of the South African winter meaning summer will soon be here again.

But let’s get into the things I’ve been loving for the month of May:

MAC Cleanse Off Oil

I LOVE this product and if you think BioDerma works well, you haven’t tried this cleanse off oil yet. It takes your make up off without any scrubbing. It literally cuts straight through waterproof eyeliner and dark lipstick without even leaving behind stain and best of all, it doesn’t dry out your skin so if you don’t feel like using moisturizer afterwards, you don’t have to. Oh and it smells vaguely of oranges. Yum!

MAC Select Cover-Up (NW20)

I’m in love with this concealer. It covers up my dark circles underneath my eyes without being cakey or creasing.

Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner

This is great for during the day when your skin needs a pick me up. You just spray it on and leave it to soak in. The smell isn’t fantastic but I can live with it.

Dove Go Fresh Fresh Touch shower gel

I have damn dry skin year round so if you have the same problem then consider buying this shower gel. It’s creamy and doesn’t dry out your skin. I love the smell as well. The one I have pictured here is Cucumber and Green Tea scent. The combo sounds weird but it’s very light and fresh.

Labello Lip Butter in Vanilla and Macadamia

I’ve raved about the Raspberry one before and I recently finished up the little tin’s delicious content so I bought a different flavour. This is great for winter and dry, chapped lips that need extra care. It does however leave a bit of a white cast but it disappears as soon as the product absorbs into your lips. Just don’t try eating this, it tastes like hell. Not that I’ve tried… 😉

Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Berry

I’ve mentioned a million times before how much I love these tubes of loveliness. I’ve been wearing my Melted Berry shade a ton since the weather became cooler. It’s such a stunning shade.

China Glaze Nail Laquer in That’s Shore Bright

The name doesn’t disappoint, it sure is very bright but it’s beautiful and lasts long on your nails.

OMI – Cheerleader

I’ve tried to recreate the girls in the music video’s dance moves. I nearly ripped something. Good luck to you if you should try, but rather just don’t.

What have you been loving this month?

April favourites <3

This month I actually have a favourites post, hooray!

Only a few items made it onto my list this month, but I enjoyed using them a lot.

Let’s begin, shall we?

Forever New iPhone 5 cover

How awesome is that phone cover? It actually has water and glitter floating in it and I’m weirdly mesmerized by it. I got it about two weeks ago and when I left my phone on my desk at work, went to make coffee and came back someone would be standing there playing with my phone and staring at the glitters floating around.

The cover does scratch easily and it makes your phone heavy and much thicker, but it’s just so pretty!

You can get a pink one like mine or one with silver glitter and purple stars at Forever New. The cover is about R199,00.

Dischem concealer sponge

I’ve ranted quite considerably about the Beauty Blender and how overrated I think it is, but I discovered this little beauty for a total of R12 at Dischem. Yes, you read correctly and no I did not make a typo.

I use it to apply my concealer and it actually looks perfect and flawless. I don’t wet the sponge and pat on the concealer and it covers my dark circles perfectly. I can see the difference between when I use my fingers and the spongey and the spongey works so much better. Definitely worth picking up and since it’s only R12, you won’t be broke by the beginning of May. 🙂

Lush Popcorn lip scrub

To be honest, I prefer the Bubble Gum scented one, but I like this sugary scrub. It smells good and it gets the job done. Just be sure to scrub with a light hand otherwise you won’t have lips left and have a thick lip butter close by to slather on afterwards.

Since the winter is right around the corner and creeping closer daily, I think I’m going to use this scrub more often.

MAC lipstick in Good Kisser

How appropriate that this was a gift from my darling Mr. S. 😉

I love the colour. When I’ve worn it before some people think it’s a bright pink and others say it’s red. It’s like that damn dress everyone argued about. #teamblackandblue FYI…

Koton earrings

I’m quite a fan of dangly earrings and I rediscovered these lovely earrings when I was organising my sock drawer. Don’t ask me how it got in there, because I honestly don’t know.

I bought them at Koton on sale in the UAE in January and I weirdly love the colour combo. I’m not the biggest fan of orange but with these earrings I quite like it. They go with a lot of things in my wardrobe and they liven up an outfit.

Viking beanie

Mr. S actually bought this ridiculous beanie this morning at a market and I love it. It’s handmade and wool. I’ll risk looking like a tool in public if it means I won’t freeze my butt off. 😉

I watched this for the first time in April with Mr. S and I really enjoyed it. Initially I didn’t want to watch it at all because when I went to the UAE in January I watched episodes from season 9 on the plane and it sucked. A lot. But up until season 9 is good. My favourite character was Bob Kelso.

Coldplay – Sky Full of Stars

Needs no explanation really. Enjoy!

My current favourite lipsticks

photo 2-1

I’m a complete MAC lipstick junkie. Like seriously, I think I have a problem.

Every single time Mr. S and I celebrate our anniversary or a birthday or anything for that matter I always want a MAC lipstick as a gift. Mr. S who is a manly dude is always like “Seriously? That’s what you want? Don’t you have like a million already?”, but then he always ends up going to the MAC counter anyway and buying me one. Bless his heart. ❤

Anyway, I love a bold lip with a more subtle or sparkly eye and since it’s make up melting season aka summer, I’ve been going for slightly more natural looks. Not that a sparkly eye is at all natural but I’ve been ditching the eyeliner.

Here are my favourite lipsticks thus far:

From left to right:

  • Candy Yum Yum
  • All Fired Up
  • Good Kisser
  • Up the Amp
  • Snapdragon

Can you tell I’ve been feeling more pinkish tones? 😉

Which lipstick is your favourite?

Thanks for reading!

P.S: Remember I’m on Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter!

Is it summer yet?!

Have you ever sat in the dead of winter with a warm cup of cocoa watching some lonely snowflakes drifting to the ground through the window, and thought to yourself “I wish summer would just come already?!”

Even though snow is an uncommon occurrence in Southern Africa where I stay (which then makes watching snow flakes kind of redundant), I’ve often wished that summer would come sooner after angrily coming in from outside, feeling like I’ve gotten frost bite from just being outside in the cold, dry air for five minutes.

When I think of summer, I think of golden tans, cute dresses, bright pops of colour, wavy beach curls, tall drinks and hours of fun in the sun. Doesn’t that just make winter sound boring already?

So to cheer myself up about winter since it’s only really started getting super cold here now, I decided to do a post about summer and a summer outfit, but before I even get into that, let me share a little secret with you that you have to keep in mind if you live in the US.

I’m the first person to tell you that I’m straight up addicted to the Internet. I can spend hours surfing the net and finding all kinds of awesome new sites, and one of those sites that I’ve come across is Raise.com, and also when they contacted me to participate in their Closet Swap campaign, I was all ears!

Raise.com is a platform where you can buy or sell gift cards. Signing up takes less than five minutes, and it’s free. Delivery and shipping is also free, but unfortunately for now, their services are only available in the US. The gift cards range between various price ranges, and the brands listed that accept these gift cards are literally endless.

Personally, I love gift cards and I love giving them as gifts especially for people who already have everything or someone you don’t know that well, but I digress. Since discovering Raise.com, I’ve decided to base my summer look here on some of the brands I saw listed on their website. Let’s jump straight in! I’ve put all my photos in a gallery to make it easier to go through. Enjoy!

Firstly, no summer look is complete if you don’t exfoliate and then moisturise with a shimmery body lotion. I adore The Body Shop’s exfoliators, especially their raspberry scented range. Yum! Victoria’s Secret has amazing shimmery body lotions, and I’m disappointed in myself that I didn’t buy one when I was in Dubai. Don’t repeat my mistake! I didn’t take any pictures of the lotion, because the camera didn’t pick up on the sparkles so no need to just post a picture of my arm…

Secondly, you have to have a coat of bright nail polish on your nails. My favourite nail polish is OPI, and you can purchase any colour imaginable from Sephora. I’m wearing OPI’s Strawberry Margarita, and the glittery polish is Barry M’s Rose Quartz Glitter.

I love larger watches, and my watch is Guess. I got it as a birthday present this year and I wear it every single day. My handbag is also from Guess and also happened to be a birthday present from last year.

My skater dress is from Mr. Price, which is a South African store. However, I do declare that Forever 21 has absolutely stunning summer dresses at affordable prices. I love wearing dresses in summer. The baby blue pumps are also from Mr. Price, but I’m sure you will also be able to find similar one from Forever 21 or Aldo if your budget allows it. The cardigan is from a SA shop called Vertigo.

I adore statement necklaces and the bright floral one is definitely one of my favourites. I also got it from Mr. Price (it’s affordable okay?!), and again I know that you get lovely statement jewelry from Forever 21.

My make up is quite simple. I used Maybelline 24Hr Colour Tattoo in On and on Bronze as eyeliner, and my neon lipstick is MAC Cosmetics‘s Candy Yum Yum. Please excuse my woolly sweater and scarf, it is winter after all this side of the world. 🙂 My favourite summer perfume is DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom.

All the brands I’ve mentioned here are available on Raise.com. You can thank me later. 😉

Go like Raise.com’s Facebook page here or follow them on Pinterest. Their pages are pretty darn cool.

Hello July!!!

hello july

June is definitely one of my favourite months in the year simply because it’s my birth month. Oh yes, I love me some birthday cake and sparkles! But I digress.

June was a particularly good month this year, because I got to spent it abroad with some family members and I shopped quite a substantial amount. I went over to the UAE with my suitcase weighing about 17 kg. Then I went to Europe with it weighing about 14kg after I took all the gifts out for the fandamily, and then when I came back it weighed 20 kg. Shopping was done indeed.

Let me quit rambling and jump straight into my favourites for the month of June and there’s A LOT so stay tuned folks!

Nivea Shine Control Moisturising Day Cream

I’m in love with this face cream. It’s light and fresh. A must if you’re in the market for an affordable day cream!

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour SPF 50+ Sunscreen stick

This was a complete lifesaver when I was on holiday. I’ve mentioned before how insanely pale I am. I start burning within 10 minutes so sunscreen is a must for me. This teensy little stick was just tossed into my handbag and whipped out when I needed to apply some sunscreen on my face. It’s convenient, because it’s small so no need for clunky bottles and spray bottles leaking.

L’Oreal Miss Manga Mega Volume mascara

Oh my gosh, I believe that my all time favourite mascara has actually been replaced by this one! My usual favourite used to be Maybelline The Rocket mascara, but this one is just amazing! It opens your eyes up completely, thickens your lashes and doesn’t clump. I also really love the packaging, and the adverts with the adorable little manga panda.

Maybelline 24 Hr Color Tattoo eyeshadow in 35 On and on Bronze

Yes I caught on super late with this I know and honestly, I wish I caught on earlier, because this stuff is FAN-TASTIC. Luckily I bought one lonely one in Barcelona since it’s been discontinued. Seriously Maybelline, why in the world would you discontinue something so incredibly great?!

LUSH Bubblegum lip scrub

This is bright pink and tastes delicious. Need I say more?

MAC Candy Yum Yum

MAC Candy Yum Yum and Maybelline 24 Hr Color Tattoo

MAC Candy Yum Yum and Maybelline 24 Hr Color Tattoo

In all honesty, I only purchased this yesterday, but I’m wearing it today and I adore the colour. It’s literally neon pink and can be quite overpowering, but with a soft eye make up look, it works beautifully.

Too Faced Sweetheart blush in Something About Berry

Of course I ran out of blush while abroad so I had to buy new ones and I decided to buy a brand that’s also not available in SA so I chose Too Faced. I bought mine from Sephora in Barcelona and I’m absolutely in love with it. It’s super pigmented and surprisingly long lasting. It’s really expensive though so you have been warned.

Boots Coconut and Almond Leave-In Conditioner

This stuff makes your hair so incredibly soft! I must confess, I actually use it as a detangler…

Barry M nail polish

Unfortunately, this isn’t available in South Africa or at least I’ve never seen it here before. I bought four bottles on a special in the UAE. Yes yes, four bottles might be overkill, but this is what went down: I went to Boots in the UAE and initially bought one bottle. I loved the colour and the consistency so I went back and bought more. Why not? The colours I have are Greenberry, Bright Purple, Red Glitter, and Rose Quartz Glitter.

Guess watch

I got this from Mr S for my birthday and I absolutely adore it. It goes with everything and I can actually read the time on it properly even though there aren’t any numbers on the face.

Guess handbag

One of my many holiday purchases. I love this little bag! I actually wanted the bigger tote, but it was out of my budget so I went for the smaller one instead and it hasn’t disappointed me yet. This bag is also available in white and black.

Forever 21

There aren’t any Forever 21 stores in South Africa, and I honestly wish there were! I really enjoyed walking through these and just browsing. There’s so much to choose from! Forever 21 has stunning statement necklaces and dresses.

I purchased some from Bath and Body Works in the UAE and some Yankee Candles in South Africa.

My Bath and Body Works candle scents: Cinnamon Sugared Doughnut, Pink Bubblegum, Paris Daydream, and Vanilla Lavender.

Yankee Candle scents: Garden Sweet Pea and Love Me, Love Me Not. Love Me, Love Me Not isn’t photographed in the picture above, because I left it at Mr S’s place after burning it for the first time.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

This is just delicious, although one of these can possibly give you full-blown Diabetes. If you love chocolate or if you love peanut butter, give it a try. You do get smaller, thinner ones as well.

Foo Fighters

They’re coming to South Africa in December and I’ve got a ticket to go to the Johannesburg show with friends and Mr S. The Kaiser Chiefs will also be perfoming, and with Kaiser Chiefs I mean the band, not the South African soccer team.

In The City

This has got to be one of my favourite music festivals ever! The Johannesburg show is called In The City and then there’s one down in Port Elizabeth with almost the exact same line up and it’s called Rocking the Daisies. MGMT is the headlining act and they’re coming to South Africa in October. I don’t have a ticket yet, but I’m definitely going to buy one soon. Whoop!

The fact that Maybelline discontinued the 24 Hr Color Tattoos. Excuse you.

I’m also not impressed with Blackberry. The day I had to go to the airport my phone decided to stop working and went insane. Not very comforting when you’re getting ready to go abroad for three weeks. Luckily, I’m getting a new phone in about two or three months. Hooray!
