Have you ever sat in the dead of winter with a warm cup of cocoa watching some lonely snowflakes drifting to the ground through the window, and thought to yourself “I wish summer would just come already?!”
Even though snow is an uncommon occurrence in Southern Africa where I stay (which then makes watching snow flakes kind of redundant), I’ve often wished that summer would come sooner after angrily coming in from outside, feeling like I’ve gotten frost bite from just being outside in the cold, dry air for five minutes.
When I think of summer, I think of golden tans, cute dresses, bright pops of colour, wavy beach curls, tall drinks and hours of fun in the sun. Doesn’t that just make winter sound boring already?
So to cheer myself up about winter since it’s only really started getting super cold here now, I decided to do a post about summer and a summer outfit, but before I even get into that, let me share a little secret with you that you have to keep in mind if you live in the US.
I’m the first person to tell you that I’m straight up addicted to the Internet. I can spend hours surfing the net and finding all kinds of awesome new sites, and one of those sites that I’ve come across is Raise.com, and also when they contacted me to participate in their Closet Swap campaign, I was all ears!
Raise.com is a platform where you can buy or sell gift cards. Signing up takes less than five minutes, and it’s free. Delivery and shipping is also free, but unfortunately for now, their services are only available in the US. The gift cards range between various price ranges, and the brands listed that accept these gift cards are literally endless.
Personally, I love gift cards and I love giving them as gifts especially for people who already have everything or someone you don’t know that well, but I digress. Since discovering Raise.com, I’ve decided to base my summer look here on some of the brands I saw listed on their website. Let’s jump straight in! I’ve put all my photos in a gallery to make it easier to go through. Enjoy!
Firstly, no summer look is complete if you don’t exfoliate and then moisturise with a shimmery body lotion. I adore The Body Shop’s exfoliators, especially their raspberry scented range. Yum! Victoria’s Secret has amazing shimmery body lotions, and I’m disappointed in myself that I didn’t buy one when I was in Dubai. Don’t repeat my mistake! I didn’t take any pictures of the lotion, because the camera didn’t pick up on the sparkles so no need to just post a picture of my arm…
Secondly, you have to have a coat of bright nail polish on your nails. My favourite nail polish is OPI, and you can purchase any colour imaginable from Sephora. I’m wearing OPI’s Strawberry Margarita, and the glittery polish is Barry M’s Rose Quartz Glitter.
I love larger watches, and my watch is Guess. I got it as a birthday present this year and I wear it every single day. My handbag is also from Guess and also happened to be a birthday present from last year.
My skater dress is from Mr. Price, which is a South African store. However, I do declare that Forever 21 has absolutely stunning summer dresses at affordable prices. I love wearing dresses in summer. The baby blue pumps are also from Mr. Price, but I’m sure you will also be able to find similar one from Forever 21 or Aldo if your budget allows it. The cardigan is from a SA shop called Vertigo.
I adore statement necklaces and the bright floral one is definitely one of my favourites. I also got it from Mr. Price (it’s affordable okay?!), and again I know that you get lovely statement jewelry from Forever 21.
My make up is quite simple. I used Maybelline 24Hr Colour Tattoo in On and on Bronze as eyeliner, and my neon lipstick is MAC Cosmetics‘s Candy Yum Yum. Please excuse my woolly sweater and scarf, it is winter after all this side of the world. 🙂 My favourite summer perfume is DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom.
All the brands I’ve mentioned here are available on Raise.com. You can thank me later. 😉
Go like Raise.com’s Facebook page here or follow them on Pinterest. Their pages are pretty darn cool.
