Dry hair solutions

Guys, it’s full blown winter here. I snooze my alarm at least twice in the mornings just to lie in bed a teensy bit longer before getting up, making coffee and getting ready for work. I hate getting out the shower or bath since it’s even colder then and my skin is even drier than usual.

But it’s not just my skin that is complaining about the dry icy cold, it’s my wavy colour treated hair as well.

I have quite a difficult hair texture to deal with. It’s thick, wavy, a bit coarse to the touch, has a frizzy element to it and also has a mind of its own. I wash it once a week (my hairdresser’s recommendation) and I spray dry shampoo on the roots in between washes to keep it from becoming an oily mess.

Not washing it that often and not using any heat treatment on it has helped a lot, but it hasn’t kept my winter woes at bay.

Normally I use silver shampoo but I’ve discovered an amazing new shampoo that I use during the winter and I promise you I’ve never looked back. If you have wavy or curly hair, it makes your curls softer yet more defined and it quenches thirsty hair quite a bit.

Another plus is that it’s paraben and sulphate free. WOOHOO!

The downside, it’s pricey.

I’ve had my bottle Hask Macadamia Oil shampoo for a while and if I remember correctly it goes for about R110 a pop at Clicks. I haven’t purchased the conditioner yet since I make use of my silver shampoo’s conditioner to keep my blonde ends from going brassy.

Here what I do to my hair after working up a lather, rinsing and repeating:

  • I let my hair air dry or if it’s particularly freezing, I walk around with a towel on my head until my hair is damp
  • I work about 3 drops of TreSemme’s hair oil into my strands and leave it
  • When my hair’s almost completely dry, I gently comb it through with my bamboo comb from The Body Shop.

And voila!

My hair is soft and shiny.

Do you have any holy grail hair products?
